The BC Sports Hall of Fame’s Hero in You program brings legendary golfer Richard Zokol to Kamloops schools
September 16, 2024Vancouver, BC – For the first time ever, the BC Sports Hall of Fame will host its Annual Summit in Canada’s Tournament Capital, Kamloops, from September 19th-21st, 2024 and will be bringing the much-celebrated Hero In You program to the region.
The program is a province-wide youth educational outreach initiative that showcases the incredible stories, challenges, and triumphs of BC athletes. This free program, delivered in schools, serves as an invaluable resource for students and teachers, aiming to inspire the next generation.
This year, the BC Sports Hall of Fame is proud to have Honoured Member Richard Zokol serving as the program’s ambassador when he visits two schools in Kamloops: Kay Bingham Elementary School and Savona Elementary. Richard, known for his exceptional achievements in golf, will spend time with students sharing stories from his career and the valuable lessons he learned along the way.
During a Hero in You presentation, students learn about the remarkable stories of legendary athletes such as Terry Fox and Rick Hansen and many more. They discover how these legends overcame adversity, persevered with unwavering dedication, and how their belief in themselves continues to inspire future generations to pursue their dreams.
Other highlights of the Summit include a luncheon paying tribute to several Defining Moments in British Columbia sport history, a dinner honouring 2024 winners of the Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Awards, a series of community development workshops, and the Annual General Meeting itself. The Annual Summit is designed for Trustees of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, members of the Board of Directors of the BC Sports Hall Foundation, community stakeholders and representatives of local, regional, and sport-specific Halls of Fame that are part of the emerging BC Sports Hall Network.
The BC Sports Hall of Fame Annual Summit will be held at the Delta Hotel in downtown Kamloops – and is being co-chaired Carolyn Boomer, CEO of PacificSport Interior BC and Duncan Olthuis, Executive Director of Kamloops Sports Council and Hall of Fame.
