In 1957, Frank Read was coaxed out of retirement to once again coach a UBC/VRC crew to an Olympic medal.

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the UBC/VRC eights crew representing Canada won the silver medal over a 2000m course in a time of six minutes 1.52 seconds. The result stood as the only medal for Canada at the 1960 Olympics.
