Annual Summit to be Held in Kamloops September 19th-21st

August 10, 2024

Vancouver, BC – For the first time ever, the BC Sports Hall of Fame will host its Annual Summit in Canada’s Tournament Capital, Kamloops, from September 19th-21st 2024.

Co-hosted by the BC Sports Hall, the Kamloops Sports Council and Hall of Fame, and PacificSport Interior BC, this year’s Summit is making its debut in Kamloops. Having been rotated around the province, this is the third time in the 58-year history the Annual Summit is being held outside of Greater Vancouver – following New Westminster in 2019, Surrey in 2021, Kelowna in 2022, and Greater Victoria in 2023. Ticket registration is now available for the three-day event and virtual workshops.

The Summit will include a luncheon paying tribute to several Defining Moments in British Columbia sport history, a dinner honouring 2024 winners of the Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Awards, a series of community development workshops, and the Annual General Meeting itself. The Annual Summit is designed for Trustees of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, members of the Board of Directors of the BC Sports Hall Foundation, community stakeholders and representatives of local, regional, and sport-specific Halls of Fame that are part of the emerging BC Sports Hall Network.

“We will build on this year’s Annual Summit in Kamloops, to make the annual meeting an important coming-together of those who advocate for the promotion of sport history, heritage, and culture in British Columbia,” said Michelle Kitchen, CEO of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. “We’re keen to inspire the advancement of sport and its role in the economic development of this region.”

The BC Sports Hall of Fame Annual Summit will be held at the Delta Hotel in downtown Kamloops – and is being co-chaired Carolyn Boomer, CEO of PacificSport Interior BC and Duncan Olthuis, Executive Director of Kamloops Sports Council and Hall of Fame.

Among the previous Defining Moments celebrated at the Annual Summit since 2018 include the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Paralympics, the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope in 1980, Steve Nash’s back-to-back NBA MVP titles in 2005 and 2006, Rick Hansen Man in Motion in 1987, Nancy Greene’s Olympic gold at Grenoble 1968, the Vancouver Canucks runs to the Stanley Cup Final in 1994 and 1982, the BC Lions 1994 Grey Cup victory and Michelle Stilwell’s gold medals at three consecutive Paralympic Games between 2008-2016.
