Sport BC and the BC Sports Hall of Fame Launch Operating Partnership

May 14, 2026

Vancouver, BC (May 14, 2026) — Sport BC and the BC Sports Hall of Fame have entered into an operating partnership designed to strengthen leadership capacity, support shared priorities, and improve operational efficiency while each organization maintains its independent governance and core mandates.

Under the partnership, Sport BC will provide executive leadership and business support in areas such as revenue generation, sponsorship, marketing and communications, event delivery, partnerships, and grant development. The approach is intended to reduce duplication, align planning and reporting, and focus resources on delivering value for the larger BC sport and active living community.

“On behalf of Judy Joseph-Black and the Board of Directors of Sport BC, and Tom Mayenknecht and the Board of Trustees of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, we are pleased to announce a new operating partnership effective today. Collectively we see this as an opportunity for Sport BC to lead in a practical, service based way, bringing strong operational support and revenue expertise to help the BC Sports Hall of Fame advance its mission. By aligning priorities and sharing resources, Sport BC is excited to work with the BC Sports Hall of Fame team to help it thrive as the significant and leading provincial sport heritage institution that it has been for six decades,” Rob Newman, President & CEO, Sport BC.

“We’ve had a dynamic, long-standing relationship with Sport BC as a member and as a partner and we see this collaboration as an opportunity to further build on the existing footprint of the BC Sports Hall of Fame as the province’s go-to storyteller and promoter of sport history, heritage and culture,” said Tom Mayenknecht, Chair of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, which was founded in 1966 and is this year celebrating its 60th anniversary. “This is not only about efficiency and effectiveness, it’s about the tremendous synergies between our two organizations.”

“This agreement reflects a strategic approach to strengthening support for sport in British Columbia, aligning two long-standing organizations where it makes sense, reducing duplication, and directing capacity to the work that matters most,” said Judy Joseph-Black, Chair, Sport BC. “By supporting shared priorities and improving efficiency, we’re creating a stronger platform for long term sustainability and impact. As Chair of Sport BC and a fan of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, I am proud to support this unique initiative.”

“Facing rising costs, rapid technological change and a challenging sponsorship landscape within sport, we recognize the importance of working smart and reducing financial risk through strong partnerships,” said BC Sports Hall Honoured Member Gareth Rees, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees. “We believe this is the kind of partnership that will increase revenues and maximize our resources while still fulfilling the BC Sports Hall mandate.”

BC Sports Hall of Fame Curator & Facility Director Jason Beck will continue to lead museum operations, collections, exhibitions and visitor experience, while the team at Sport BC – led by President & CEO Rob Newman and Vice-President Operations Allison Mailer – will provide defined leadership, administrative oversight and business development support.

The partnership is effective immediately and runs through April 30, 2027.
