Charles N. ‘Chunky’ Woodward’s dedication and contributions to sport in BC were widely diversified and generous. Both BC’s charitable organizations and the athletic community benefitted from his unfailing support for many years.
Woodward was actively involved with a wide variety of sports at every level of competition including the professional leagues and supported numerous schemes to provide the province with new sports facilities such as B.C. Place Stadium and Whistler Mountain.
Woodward’s favourite pastime however, was working with horses. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Western Heritage Centre and was one of the founding members of the Canadian Rodeo Commissions. Chunky was also instrumental in establishing rodeo circuits all over Western Canada.
It was an inherent part of Chunky Woodward’s character to give advice and encouragement whenever needed most, and few organizations in B.C. did not benefit from his support.
