Carole Bishop’s volleyball career spanned some twenty years, starting in high school in 1962, to national and international competition from 1967 to her retirement in 1982. At age sixteen, Carole was the youngest Canadian ever to participate in volleyball at the international level.

From 1967-70, Bishop was on four BC junior women’s championship teams and she was once named “Most Valuable Player.” She was on eleven BC senior women’s championship teams from 1967-73 and 1979-82.

Bishop was a member of nine Canadian national senior women’s championship teams from 1967-73 and 1979-80. She was selected a national all-star on four occasions.

Bishop was selected to the national team in 1967 at age sixteen and was a regular member for twelve years, playing first string. She competed for Canada at the 1967, 1971, and 1975 Pan American Games and was named a tournament all-star in 1971 and 1975.

At the North and Central American Championships she won silver in 1973 and bronze in 1975. In 1972, she trained in Japan at the Yashica Club, the first foreign athlete invited to do so.

Bishop competed for Canada at the 1974 and 1978 world championships, the 1973 and 1977 World Cups, and the 1973 and 1977 World University Student Games. She won a silver medal and was named MVP (setter) at the 1975 All Balkan Tournament in eastern Europe. She also attended the tournament in 1974 and 1977.

Bishop was rated the fourth best setter in the world by the International Statistics Committee at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. She was named MVP (setter) at the 1976 European Tournament. She retired from active competition in 1982 at age 32.
