Crooks and Storrow Named Honourary Gala Co-Chairs

VANCOUVER, BC – One of Canada’s most popular athletes and sport advocates and the longest- serving Trustee on the Board of the BC Sports Hall of Fame will come together this week as Honourary Co-Chairs of the Class of 2019 Induction Gala presented by Victory Square.

Olympian Charmaine Crooks, C.M., Member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, the flag-bearer at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, and renowned Vancouver lawyer Marvin Storrow, QC, will serve as Honourary Co-Chairs at the Honoured Members Reception Wednesday, May 22nd and the Induction Gala Thursday, May 23rd.

“By bringing together one of Canada’s international sport leaders and one of the longest- serving Trustees in the 53-year history of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, we exemplify the role we play as the biggest resource in telling the stories that define the history, heritage and culture of sport in British Columbia,” said BC Sports Hall of Fame Chair Tom Mayenknecht. “We are very pleased to have Charmaine Crooks and Marvin Storrow serve as our Honourary Co-Chairs this week.”

Crooks is a five-time Olympian and Olympic silver medalist who represented Canada in international track and field for more than 20 years. Her Olympic silver medal came in the 4 x 400M relay at the Los Angeles, 1984 Olympics. She was elected to the IOC Athletes Commission in 1996 and joined as a voting member 2000-2004. Crooks is also a member of the Executive Board of the Canadian Olympic Committee and was part of the Vancouver 2010 organizing committee. She is an Honoured Member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2003.

Storrow is senior litigation counsel at Blakes engaged in both civil and criminal law. He has specialized in international trade, commercial and securities litigation and First Nations claims and has won multiple honours over the course of his career, including the 2012 Lexpert Zenith Award recognizing innovation and change agents. He was President of the UBC law school class of 1962. Storrow has served the BC Sports Hall of Fame for more than 15 years.

The Induction Gala Committee is being Co-Chaired this year by Michelle Collens and Tewanee Joseph, both members of the Board of Trustees of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. More than 900 people are expected to attend as the members of the Class of 2019 are inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
