It will mark only the third time in the now 57-year history of the BC Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Society that its AGM has been held outside of Greater Vancouver. “We’re delighted to be heading to the Tournament Capital of Canada for our 2024 Annual Summit in what will be a gathering of passionate advocates who not only believe in the power of sport but in the inspirations created by the active promotion of sport history, heritage and culture,” said Tom Mayenknecht, Chair of the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
The BC Sports Hall of Fame marked the occasion by passing a Vancouver 2010 torch from Doug Jennings, President of the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame to Ron McColl, Chair of PacificSport Interior, and Duncan Olthuis, Executive Director of the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.
“On behalf of our Board of Trustees and our management team led by CEO Michelle Kitchen and curator Jason Beck, we’re excited by the prospects of our Kamloops 2024 Annual Summit and look forward to building on the tremendous reception we received from the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame and Greater Victoria communities last week,” added Mayenknecht.
A record total of 356 people attended the eight events, including an estimated 163 unique individuals who attended and participated in the Annual Summit held largely at the Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina.
The Kamloops 2024 Annual Summit is expected to include special events such as the DEFINING MOMENTS LUNCHEON powered by Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, The Council of Chairs Dinner presented by the BC Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, the General Meeting of the BC Sports Hall Network, school tours featuring the Hero in You children’s and youth education program presented by BC Sports Hall of Famers, Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Sport BC, the Annual General Meeting of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and more.
